About Us

Promotores de Esperanza (PDE), which translates to “Promoters of Hope,” is more than a name—it is a movement, a mission, and a testament to the strength of community. Born out of necessity, resilience, and love, PDE was created to confront the profound health disparities and systemic barriers affecting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities. Our story is rooted in lived experience, shaped by grassroots action, and continually strengthened through cultural wisdom, community collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to justice. PDE was founded from a lived understanding of trauma, substance use, incarceration, poverty, and the healing power of connection. The Founder and Executive Director—a BIPOC woman with firsthand experience navigating many of the same systems and challenges faced by community members today—witnessed the devastating impacts of racialized systems of oppression and the ways culturally disconnected services failed to support those most affected. Traditional models of care often overlook the social, cultural, and historical contexts that shape people’s lives, including unresolved trauma. Reflecting this lived-expertise foundation, the majority of PDE’s team members also have experience with justice involvement and/or substance use and recovery. Their perspectives offer invaluable insight and tangible proof that healing and recovery are not only possible but attainable.
